Yesterday, we learned a lot about pollination. After learning about pollination, the students were presented with a problem to solve.
THE PROBLEM: There are no animals, weather, etc. to transfer pollen from one flower to another.
THE SOLUTION: Create a hand pollinator to "pick up" pollen from one flower and "drop it off" to another flower.
The students explored different materials (tin foil, pipe cleaner, tape, etc.) to decide which materials would be ideal for transferring pollen from one flower to another. Next, the students used the materials and their plan to make a hand pollinator. Finally, the students tested their hand pollinators (we pretended that baking soda was pollen) and shared their ideas with each other.
